Amdocs (NYSE: DOX – News), the leading provider of software and services to enable integrated customer management and the intentional customer experience(TM), today announced that Jilin Unicom signed a contract to have Amdocs consolidate and upgrade the company’s current rating and billing systems to create an integrated platform that allows its 4 million customers to personalize product bundles and choose flexible pricing plans. Jilin Unicom is the main service provider of the Jilin province, and is the only integrated telecommunications business there. Jilin Unicom is among Amdocs’ recent wins in China, a large and rapidly growing market.
An upgraded Amdocs rating and billing system will allow Jilin Unicom customers to design their own unique service packages based on personal preferences and usage needs, giving customers the ability to better manage their relationship with the service provider. In addition, Amdocs software provides the flexibility to support the launch of a number of voice and data services, including long-distance, SMS and future value-added services.
“We have investigated how Amdocs’ rating and billing system functions in our Tianjin and Shandong branches and discovered that it is exactly what we need,” said Changchun He, vice general manager of Jilin Unicom. “The real-time and highly stable Amdocs rating and billing system adapts to GSM/CDMA capacity and offers accurate billing information and flexible services to customers instantly. Amdocs’ rating and billing system enables us to deliver new business services to customers now and in the future.”
The implementation project will take a two-pronged approach. The first phase will see the rollout of billing, customization and integrated rating and billing processes, while the second phase will include acquisition and settlement. Jilin Unicom will also use Amdocs’ systems integration and maintenance services. Amdocs is currently supporting the company’s GSM billing and mediation capabilities.
Amdocs has developed a strong presence in the Chinese telecommunications marketplace through its acquisition of Longshine, a leading billing and customer care solutions provider in China. Amdocs works closely with China’s top service providers. Amdocs’ China operations include approximately 1,100 employees who can serve the growing and complex needs of the country’s service providers.
In a recent report titled Market Trends Industry Analysis, China 2004-2009, The Gartner Group estimates the IT communications industry to be the largest IT opportunity in China, with a market size estimated to reach $22 billion by 2009. Telecom in China continues to be a rapidly growing market, with service providers adding a million subscribers each day. To compete in this massively expanding market, service providers must sort through complex business and technology issues. Amdocs adds its global expertise and best practices to local knowledge to help service providers in China to deal more effectively with growing complexity and increasing competition. Amdocs is also helping several of the country’s service providers prepare for 3G licensing by ensuring their people, processes and back-end infrastructure are aligned.
“The Chinese communications marketplace is undergoing tremendous change as customers demand more from service providers and operators look to quickly introduce new products and services to customers,” said Michael Matthews, chief marketing officer of Amdocs. “By enabling customers to personalize their own product bundles, Jilin Unicom is providing an improved customer experience that will help enhance customer loyalty and satisfaction.”
