National requirements for data retention of voice call and other services data obtained with Comptel solution
Comptel Corporation announced that Comptel Data Retention Solution has been deployed by a Middle Eastern operator. The purpose of the solution is to collect and retain data related to voices calls and usage of other services. Serious crimes, including terrorism, can then be combated by authorities with these data.
The retention of data related to the use of telecom services is being mandated through legislation the world over. Last autumn, for example, the EU Data Retention Directive came into effect. This type of legislation can be very problematic and costly to implement from an operators’ point of view, not the least because of the wide variety of sources of data, and the huge volumes involved.
Comptel Data Retention Solution is a turn-key solution that includes Comptel software pre-installed on Sun Microsystems hardware. Comptel’s field-proven and market-leading data processing software is used to collect and process the call data from the various networks. The collection and processing process is handled by Comptel’s patented billing mediation software. The data is then compressed and stored in a database for quick and easy access when needed. Comptel’s software has off-the-shelf features covering data processing, reporting usage and data handover auditing, low-cost storage and other authority-based requirements needed for a data retention solution.
Comptel Data Retention Solution was launched last year and this license sale was concluded during the last quarter of the year.
