Comptel Corporation (OMX Helsinki: CTL1V), a leading vendor of dynamic Operations Support System (OSS) software, is launching the Comptel Interconnect Billing Solution. This solution will help service providers settle charges with other service providers for using each other’s networks and services. The Comptel Interconnect Billing Solution is designed to overcome many of the challenges posed by next generation networks and services.
The growing expectation by users for services tailored to their needs, so called “life-style services”, means that service providers are increasingly reaching agreements with other parties to satisfy their customers’ desire for services like complex communications, roaming and content. This in turn is driving the growth in the demand for interconnect and settlement solutions that help service providers settle charges with their partners.
Mr. Markku Penttinen, Comptel’s Senior Vice President, Event Mediation Business, explains: “A surprising amount of service providers do not have proper solutions for interconnect billing. It’s not uncommon for service providers to use manual solutions based on desktop software, to settle potentially very large charges. But even for those service providers with existing solutions, the growth of new IP-based services on next generation networks, and the move toward more real-time dynamic settlements, mean that a new approach is needed. In fact, many of our customers have been asking us to provide a solution to their interconnect problems. And so we have listened to them.”
Comptel Interconnect Billing Solution has been designed to overcome the challenges of modern network infrastructure (NGN and IMS) and non-voice services (data, VoIP etc.) while still supporting the existing and more traditional services. The solution’s functionality includes managing business agreements, processing data, rating and discounting, reconciliation of bills and reporting. It provides open interfaces, including a web-based easy-to-use GUI, and XML-based interfaces to other systems such as Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems, such as those offered by Oracle and SAP.
Mr. Markku Penttinen explains: “With our leadership and solid experience in convergent mediation and charging, including the issues surrounding roaming, Comptel is well placed to deliver the next generation interconnect solution. The Comptel Interconnect Billing Solution will provide service providers the great time to market and value for money they demand.”
