DE-CIX, the world’s leading operator of Internet Exchanges (IXs), and SwissIX, the operator of Switzerland’s largest IX, have collaborated to upgrade and modernize the Swiss Internet Exchange. This involved migrating all 220 networks connected to SwissIX onto the award-winning DE-CIX Apollon platform. SwissIX, a non-profit association, is known for its neutral peering network, which spans across seven different data centers in Switzerland. The migration process was carefully executed during overnight maintenance windows to minimize the impact on customers.
In addition to the migration, DE-CIX has taken on the responsibility of handling technical operations, including maintenance, upkeep, and future development of the SwissIX interconnection platform. This also encompasses technical customer support and provisioning, while SwissIX will continue to manage the business aspects and marketing efforts.
DE-CIX operates six IXs in Germany across various regions, some in collaboration with local providers. The flagship IX, DE-CIX Frankfurt, is the largest in Europe and handles peak data throughput of over 14 terabits per second. The DE-CIX platform is accessible from more than 250 data centers in Germany, providing easy access to advanced interconnection services. On a global scale, DE-CIX connects thousands of network operators (carriers), Internet service providers (ISPs), content providers, content delivery networks (CDNs), and corporate networks from over 100 countries across approximately 50 locations. It offers a range of interconnection services, including peering and cloud connectivity. Together, the DE-CIX IXs form the world’s largest neutral interconnection ecosystem, with a connected customer capacity of approximately 130 terabits.
