Logan Orviss International, one of EMEA’s largest privately held telecoms consulting organisations, has appointed one of the telecom industry’s most influential figures to its board of directors. Mike Frayne, co-founder and former executive chairman of Intec Telecom Systems, joins Logan Orviss as a director.
“Never has the telco industry faced such challenging times in terms of how the large players will shape their businesses in the future. Faced with imminent pressures of converged charging, local loop unbundling, next generation networks and multi-media converged services to name but a few, these companies will rely increasingly on consultants that bring the knowledge and expertise to counsel them on strategic decisions. Mike’s appointment will strengthen our practice greatly,†said co-founder and chief executive officer of Logan Orviss International, Brendan Logan.
Frayne enjoys an enviable reputation in the telco industry, having catapulted Intec Telecom Systems, a leading provider of billing and mediation solutions for carriers worldwide, into one of the UK’s most successful and largest software companies. Through a bold acquisitive strategy, including a takeover of the retail billing software division of ADC Telecommunication, Frayne transformed Intec’s business into a global OSS company that now employs more than 1,600 people. Frayne was subsequently named Ernst & Young ‘Entrepreneur of the Year’ in 2001.
On the Logan Orviss board, Frayne joins company founders Brendan Logan, Colin Orviss, John Spackman and Roland Langlands with the objective of furthering the consultancy’s international reach. The firm’s client base includes 3, France Telecom, Tele Denmark, AOL, MTS, and Vodafone, amongst others.
Throughout his career Frayne has lengthy experience founding and nurturing IT businesses, amongst them the international IT services group, iOCORE. He was instrumental in taking the Finnish company public in 2000 and chaired the business until its merger with Sentera Oy in 2004.
Of Logan Orviss, Frayne said: “It is the content, experience and resources to deliver critical intelligence in telecommunications that sets Logan Orviss apart. For example, we have a comprehensive practice around IMS which is a major technical issue that all operators face. We are able to offer a vendor independent, business-oriented service around this new technology to help carriers build their own internal strategies for IMS.â€
Frayne’s appointment comes on the cusp of Logan Orviss launching a new market consultancies strategy that includes five key practices to guide operators through business challenges ranging from consolidation to next-generation network migration. Frayne concluded: “Few telcos can afford to ignore this vast pool of market intelligence and I am glad to be part of it.â€
