Viavi Solutions Inc. (VIAVI), a leading provider of network testing solutions, has unveiled the TM500 Cloud at MWC Shanghai. This innovative solution is specifically designed to test cloud-based O-RAN components, addressing the need to ensure Quality of Service (QoS) for end users as operators deploy core network services in the cloud.
The TM500 Cloud is tailored for typical O-RAN cloud deployment models, where the O-DU, O-CU, and core elements are all hosted in the cloud. By utilizing this solution, Network Equipment Manufacturers (NEMs) and operators can effectively manage the risks associated with this new deployment approach and maintain consistent Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and QoS for end users, comparable to traditional gNB and core network architectures.
In addition to its application in public or private cloud scenarios, the TM500 Cloud can also be deployed in architectures where the 5G User Plane Function (UPF) is located near the edge of the “Cloud RAN” to meet low-latency requirements. This enables accurate performance evaluation in such setups.
The TM500 Cloud offers comprehensive evaluation of crucial KPIs, including throughput, latency, and round-trip time. It ensures optimal performance for each user, even with the addition of more users, and guarantees that the quality of applications, such as voice services, remains uncompromised.
Given that the TM500 is already a widely adopted standard test instrument for most NEMs, the TM500 Cloud serves as a natural extension for them as they embrace the deployment of O-RAN network components in the cloud. Moreover, as operators increasingly collaborate with cloud providers, this solution provides assurance that the scalability and cost advantages gained through cloud deployment will not negatively impact the user experience.
