Volubill, the leading provider of charging and policy, will participate in Light Reading LIVE’s Policy, DPI & Net Neutrality Panel Debate at CTIA Wireless 2010, scheduled for Wednesday March 24, 2010 at the Las Vegas Convention Center. Volubill CEO John Aalbers will be joined by other executives from around the communications industry as they debate the future opportunities and impacts of policy management technologies.
The panel, entitled “Policy, DPI & Net Neutrality: Heaven or Hell?” will take place from 12:00 noon to 1:00pm PST. Experts will address the likely impact of the FCC’s proposed regulations on network neutrality and what they mean for the use of subscriber policy management and DPI tools and the future of broadband access for consumers. It will also look at the way forward for network operators and how they can use the emerging new rules to their and their customers’ advantage. The debate will be moderated by Heavy Reading chief analyst Graham Finnie.
The FCC’s proposed rules aim to increase transparency and eliminate discrimination toward any type of lawful Internet traffic or lawful users on both wired and wireless networks. The draft rules also allow for owners of the broadband pipe to manage congestion on the network within reason, and apply network neutrality rules to those beyond Internet service providers. The FCC approved the draft rules in October 2009, and the commenting deadline on the proposal is currently April 8, 2010, extended from March 5.
“Recent developments around the FCC’s net-neutrality rules hold enormous implications for providers struggling to maintain a high level customer experience while adapting to massive increases in bandwidth usage,” said Aalbers. “While net neutrality as an overriding concept will undoubtedly endure, providers must understand how these new rules and standards will impact network management and policy in order to maintain a positive experience for their customers as they adjust to comply.”
